"Gripping...with an adrenaline-filled climax combined with compelling characters." - Kirkus Reviews.  By a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.

"A fascinating and fast-paced mystery/thriller.  It is a thought provoking and extremely captivating story." - Book Review

It's 2004 and Andrew Harper has the inside track to become California's next governor.  A former college basketball star, crusading prosecutor and beloved Congressman, the candidate is also openly gay.  His candidacy panics the ultraconservative political and religious establishment.

Reporter Enzo Lee is cajoled into leaving his comfortable niche covering fluffy features for the San Francisco News to cover the historic campaign.  Soon he find himself embroiled in political sabotage, high-tech computer spying that turns lethal and trumped up charges of child molestation.  And, a troubled war veteran armed with guns and explosives begins a violent journey from small-town Montana to the City by the Bay.

When Lee becomes a target himself he must dodge attempts on his own life while trying to expose the conspiracy and help keep the candidate alive.

Divine Fury is the newly released second book in the Enzo Lee series from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert B. Lowe.  The series was kicked off by the best-selling Project Moses, the bioterroism thriller that made the Top 20 Mysteries list and was a finalist in the Best Indie Books of 2012 competition.

Divine Fury is a page-turning thriller with suspense, action, romance and enough twists to keep the reader guessing.  It also focuses on a timely theme as the issues of same-sex marriage and gay rights become a major cultural battleground in America.

"...well-written, suspenseful, gripping..." - Stephen Woodfin, author of Last One Chosen.

"A must read for any mystery lover!"

"Divine Fury was engaging, gripping, and hard to put down, a perfect read for my trip."-S.C.Everly

The story kept me turning the page which is what good writing is supposed to do. However, I had the constant feeling the book was a travelogue disguised as a mystery. I'm really not interested in knowing every nook and cranny, every landmark, every diner and restaurant in San Francisco, or any other city for that matter. Name dropping for the sake of name dropping doesn't get it. If Mr Lowe wants to impress people with his knowledge of a city, he really should write a travelogue. The story is everything. Spare me superfluous information.

Divine Fury An Enzo Lee Mystery Thriller Robert B Lowe 9780988644816 Books Reviews

I found this second book by Robert B. Lowe to be very captivating. I found I spent a longer period of time reading to see if the baddies get caught, etc. The characters were real, the plots almost believable as were the injuries which Enzo sustained. An added bonus was the talk around gay relationships which spurred on the hatred from one church. The baddies were bad and the goodies were righteous and only two men were killed, one of each.
I like the story line, but it seemed a little hacked together. Maybe some scenes, like the romance between the main character and his boss could be eliminated or made more important. Some of their togetherness" seemed to slow the story down. The characters were developed well enough and controversial topics made the book interesting. I'm not sure I like the ending, which seemed to happen too quickly and conveniently. Give it a try.
I had a hard time getting into this book. It wasn't bad, but there was nothing exciting or gripping to make me want to keep going. It started slow and I had a hard time keeping track of the characters.

Enzo, a journalist and the main character, finds himself in the middle of a plot by a fanatical religious group to assassinate a gay politician in California. He always seems to be around at the right time and helps the police with the investigation. Again, this book was OK, but nothing I couldn't live w/o.
This book is actually faster and better than its predecessor (The Moses Project) except that the author repeats the most major oddity in that book. In the middle, somewhere around halfway, he throws in a semi-soft core but really really unnecessarily graphic description of sex between the hero and the object of his erection... er, affection. I think it's terrific that they had great sex but I don't need, in a book of this sort, to know just exactly when and where their hands and lips were. The whole passage just sticks out like a sore appendage, and certainly not a thumb.
WOW, what an amazing tightly written novel. If I could have given more stars I certainly would have. It deals with a subject many might find objectionable, but not as much now as in the past. The plot develops nicely along a natural line and ends with an explosive climax. Prepare yourself for it. Never have I shed tears over a character and his demise in a book before. I did with this one! It reads like right from today's headlines and will keep you enthralled from the beginning to the end. This is my first book by this author, but it will NOT be the last. I look forward to reading more from him.
Mr Lowe gives a solid foundation for the story and fills in the details on the way rather than giving smatterings of loosely related information. His characters were believable other than the extreme level of luck of being in just the right place at the right time the main character has toward the end. He isn't redundant in giving the information on even minor characters every time you come across their name. This was a fairly light read without an overload of branches in the plot. It had the feel of a more detailed Robert B. Parker Spenser novel. I chose the 4 star rating because although the book was smart and funny, it didn't completely suck me in with a stranglehold making it impossible to put down.
This was a great story especially if you enjoy politics, which I do. It looks into the influence of a fundamental religious group's methods for influencing elections in a very believable way. It's a modern story which talks about contemporary issues and the lengths to which certain groups will go to impact an election. It's really well written and the characters feel real. You don't have to love politics to enjoy this book, but if you do, it is that much more fun. It was never boring though it could have left out a couple of sex scenes which added nothing to the story. The story moves quickly and is always believable. If you don't want sex and violence to dominate your mystery, this one's for you. I really enjoyed it and will definitely buy another by this author. I save my 5th star for books I will read again. I would give this another half star because I may read it again down the road. Great read.
